ENDORSEMENTS
In her deft use of poetry and her beautiful digital
imagery (the latter often with a nostalgic edge), Nara Denning shows one of the most original talents on the San Francisco
film-making scene. Her suite of films Under the Pavement highlight many of her strengths,
whether in the masked dance of The Pendulum Heart or the journey over "magic
seas forlorn" of Star of Tyche, the sweetly nutty satire of Dogmatique
or the mysterious dramas of Still Life. Not least, Denning has assembled
a creative team fully equal to the demands of her wide-ranging, restlessly exploring imagination. She should be
on the watch list of all local film buffs.

Nara Denning knows
that the most personal truths and experiences are the most universal. Her lexicon of dreamlike imagery is wielded with
care to produce a specific effect. Never showy or flashy, it is all part of a whole, always serving the ultimate story.
Her stories are those of searching souls, people disconnected from their true selves, wanting to be complete. They are
powerful and moving in the way that you experience when you wake from a dream of mysterious images, but with a powerful feeling
that something just happened. The feeling gnaws at you throughout the day.
Her natural growth
toward a more social consciousness growing from the personal should be encouraged and supported. She has the discipline
and persistence, as well as the uncompromising sense of "getting it right," to produce works that will evoke a spirit
of discovery in the viewer. Hers is a unique voice that should not go unheard.
